Recorded these "whoops" last nite at a site where I do most of my triathlon training its a large undeveloped commercial site with great roads and is lit at nite. It is surrounded by a swamp and an abandoned golf course. I have had years of listening to these whoops and am still puzzled by them. Its rare that you don't hear them. I have been told this is a bird. Both recordings where done from 7 to 7:30pm you will need headphones to hear them feel free to use at your discretion. As a side note before this area was developed I hunted this area as a youth and had a stalking experience. Heres the link http://drop.io/whoopswestcreek10192010

Haven't wasted anyone's time. It's always good to know what sounds are made by different animals in the forest. I've heard that particular call a few times while I was out and each of those times there was no extra "Who cooks for you" calls after them just the whoops. I believe it's the female barred owls that make these calls and the males will occasionally make sounds that, when you hear them in the middle of the night, you'll swear there is a monkey in the bush near you.
