Tim, I listened to that part of the recording. Its very interesting to say the least. Once I figure out how to split it up into sections I'll email it to you. Otherwise may have to burn you a disc and mail it to you. Arkansas Investigator

MSM, Anna gave a good description of the possible shelter, but I would like to add one thing more. There was a eight foot or so small tree or sapling that was laying on top of it, with the "root" end on top of the shelter like it was placed. The other end was sticking in the ground at a 45 degree angle. Troy would have to verify this shelter of course, but it's a maybe. Clay Smith

| Thanks so much for the quick replies. The one that was different from the other two that we found...also had a root system that was on top...kinda stuck up into the air...but used as a "back" to the shelter...with smaller twigs, branches woven into it. It sits just inside a tree line (three-sided also) and the opening at the front faces an open field and game trails that lead to either the pond close by...or the river just beyond the pond. Like you all, it was enough to make you take a second look and know that it just wasn't " natural". Hubby and I crawled into it and sat comfortably..was quite cozy..LOL The other two were more "free standing"...built against trees with low hanging limbs incorporated into them , and did not seem to have any other reason to be...except to take shelter. ( no vantage points, no trails around) . |

Thanks Rachel; it was nice to have your mom and aunt there to keep the squatches at bay; although one got thru and slipped up; bet he/she got scolded real good on that one. Did you mend the hole yet from the fingernail? Clay Smith

Congratulations to everyone who attended the OK Exped. It sounds like you all had a great time and experienced some valuable activity. I wish I could have made it... maybe this Sept.
Rachel, you are so lucky to have had your experience with possible physical contact by a BF. Wow! I'm curious if as you heard the heavy footfalls approaching were they rapid like it was running? Also, do you think it might have been frightened by anything? Your dad and I experienced a sort of similar event last year on the OK Exped. Something very heavy and real fast ran through the campsite and whatever it was set down right behind my tent. I suspect it was using my tent as cover between it and the cabin/light. The BF that contacted your tent may have initially been intent on using your tent as cover while fleeing some percieved threat. It may have contacted your tent to brace/support itself, then realizing the mistake, it corrected and entered cover in the bushes. Or do you think it simply tripped on your tent? Good thing it changed its course. It's original intent may have been to find cover inside.
Also did anyone find or document any prints (hand, foot)? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who found any as to size, location ...etc. Any pictures of prints?
Also any smells noticed? If not, it may be that the BF in that area are so acclimated to people that they don't arouse to a level of fear that would trigger a scent release. Mosas

Tex - No, the hole is still there...just covered with camo duct tape!
Gregg - Yes it was the weirdest thing, I was listening carefully for noises, then out of nowhere came the footfalls. They were VERY fast. And I've been thinking back on it for a few days now....they started up so quickly, I do think the BF was spooked. Possibly by my Aunt as she sat up to see what was touching her tent.
That's a good point about him thinking to use the tent for cover too - Troy told us that people don't tent camp on the property very often....in fact this may have been the first time. So maybe the BF didn't know what a tent was? Didn't realize it would give if you put pressure on it? Or maybe it really did just have a clutzy moment...? I wish I knew!
I don't think anyone found prints this time. And Wednesday night I didn't smell anything, but Thursday night I did when we were out. I was standing with CB facing RB & MH, when CB and I both smelled an awful smell. At the same time MH was seeing red eyeglow some distance away in the treeline behind us. I got two strong whiffs of this scent and it was terrible - like a sour wet dog. It smelled like a stronger version of what a few of us smelled last year close to our tents, around a dead log where some grass had been mashed down. ~R~

In my opinion the BF didnt see Rachel's tent, it was kind of hidden behind RB's tent. I think it was making a mad dash for the tree line and stumbled over her and her tent. And in the process of pushing the tent off its foot it poked a hole in it. Rachel, there was some sort of impression by that corner of the tent, RB was showing it to me and measured it. You might ask him if he remembers the details. I think it was a knee imprint. Arkansas Investigator

Roboron set a package of strawberries out on a swing near our tents, but none were taken. He put them out Thursday night. Wednesday night all I had on the swing were some glow in the dark bracelets and a stuffed animal - a monkey. Nothing seemed to be touched.
I'm not sure if the other camps left out treats. ~R~

Anna, I got the howls recorded on friday night but not sat. night; this is still a learning curve for me. After four exp.'s you would think I would have this down by now. Maybe it's the squatch jinx. I had my lapel mic on my pocket sleeve and I was facing the wrong way I believe. I need to have it on my hat sticking up to get the omni dir. to pick up from a 360 and I have to have everyone be absolutly quiet and not make any noise. It is so sensitive, any other noise drowns out the howls I guess. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, something else would come up. "IF" I would have had a lithum battery in my recorder Wed. night, I would have picked up some world class breathing noises from outside my tent that would have been famous. But my battery was low, and it died in the late am hours, and I don't have them recorded. They were unbelievable. It's hard to explain to everyone how massive they were on an audio scale even waking me up from a hard sleep. Oh well, thats squatchin, and I will be prepared next time. Then some "newbie" come in and gets daylight/clear video of them for five minutes; wonder who that was? ummh. Beginners luck; I will hang out with you next time; if Rachel is going to trip them up when they run by, at least she can get a thermal of them isn't that right. Scott, what are we going to do with these gals? Clay Smith
