First, if you reread the report, you'll note that it wasn't a bag of candy, but a single piece. He had spilled a bunch in the woods near camp that afternoon. Everyone in their camp was accounted for. They were in a very dark section of the forest. It would have been very difficult for anyone on that expedition to sneak up on them in the dark and throw that candy piece. Not impossible, there is at least one member who had the training and equipment, but he was a half mile away that night and also not likely to pull a stunt on someone he barely knows.
As for my recordings, it is possible that they are canine or other unknown source. They remain (as does any recording of a sound where you didn't see the sound maker) unknown in origin. We don't know what made the sound. We are fairly certain based on reviews by field experts that it is not a wolf.

Wow great recording....sounds like in the middle of the recording, like puppies howling? Does anyone else hear this?
After listning again, could be coyotes If you build it, they will come! |

There was a point that night that chorus of puppies started howling. We assumed that the wolves had brought something down and their pups were now on the scene. Earlier that summer the landowner had seen 6 wolf puppies. : ) Andy P.

Are you sure it wasnt someone just screwing with you? Sounds a bit peculiar a bag of candy flying out of the woods. Something my buddies and I would do to one another.

As Andy indicated, there were only four of us in the camp and we were deep in very heavy woods. We all heard lots of activity just outside our campfire light and down a slight embankment. Branches were being snapped, footfalls were heard and I saw something very big and very bright in the thermal scope about 20 feet from us about 45 minutes before the candy toss.
In order for it to be a prank, the person would have had to come into our camp while we were at the group meeting in order to pick up the piece of candy that was spilled, and wait for us to come back. Everyone was at the group meeting and our camp was 1 1/2 miles from the base camp.
If this were a jury trial and I was trying to find reasonable doubt, I couldn't do it. It was a blast and I can't wait to do it again. To squatch, or not to squatch? That is the question. |
