My family has spotted the Mountain Lion twice in the UP. In the Watson, Northland area. My father and I were out scouting for a new trout stream, and we had just gotten back in the car, and a nice male speciman wanlked within yards of the car along side us, then crossed in front of us. A few years later my mother was driving down the state hwy there, and had one cross in front of her car a distance out.
When she described the low slung body and the long thick tail, we knew what she had seen. Both were tawny colored, not melanistic.

Yep, us yoopers know that there are big cats in da UP, don't ya know. My family has seen them on numerous occasion. My father and myself saw one up by Watson, not more than 20 feet in front of us. We had just gotten back in the car after scouting for a trout stream, an had popped a pop, when it walked up along side the car, then crossed over in front of it. It was BEAUTIFUL!!!. My mother saw one a couple years later on the road to camp, over by Ralph. I was also fortunate enough to have seen one of the Florida ones as well. I delivered newspapers, and saw one out and about in Englewood, and my brother saw one as well right by my parents house in Englewood. Both of the Florida sightings were in residential areas as well. All cats sighted were tawny, not black

| Clearfield county news around July 16, 2009 had interviewed Mike Dorley who lives in North Western Pennsylvania. He showed his horse and told it was killed by a mountain lion. He told the news people interviewing him that he seen the mountain lion that did it. The dead horse carcus was left behind with visible claw marks. The Pennsylvania Game Commision denied it was a mountain lion even with this witness who seen it. The Game Commision said "it wasn't a mountain lion they dont live in Pennsylvania." |
