Posted October 12th, 2005 12:13 PM IP MayDay 2006 Call for Game Hosts
The Edmonton Wargame Group (www.edmontonwargamegroup.com) will again be hosting a one-day convention on Saturday, 13 May 2006 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
MayDay will run 8am-9pm and attendance costs $10 (includes lunch, games and prizes). Registration will commence in April. MayDay 2005 saw over 40 gamers attend; we expect up to 60 this year.
The MayDay committee is currently looking for volunteers to host games.
Any sort of proposal is welcomed, but MayDay focuses on (mostly) historical board and miniature games.
We currently have a Flames of War mini-tourney tentatively booked. We’re specifically interested in also booking a DBA event and a Squad Leader or ASL event (volunteers anyone?).
If you’re interested in running any sort of game, please contact Bob Barnetson (bob.barnetson@3web.net) with your idea. You may want to give some consideration to the following questions:
1. What are you proposing (board/miniatures, genre, rules, scale)?
2. How much time and space would you need?
3. How many players could you accommodate and is there a minimum number?
4. Could you accommodate new players or are you looking for experienced players only?
5. Is there anything significant you’d need the players to provide (own troops, own copy of game)?
We’re looking to firm up the schedule by January.
See you all in May!

Posted October 12th, 2005 03:02 PM IP i would be interested in doing something for you guys,
I would love to do a 28mm Darkest Africa game ! i have all the stuff ! and use Peer's "In the Heart of Africa" rules and Foundry minis. This event can be for any level of gamer, but I would really like it to be an exhibition/demonstration type game for new hobbyists.
I could have about 2-6 players and would need a standard 6' X 4' table or something close to it

Posted October 13th, 2005 08:01 AM IP Dirge,
I can't seem to get the PM function to work (likely my incompetence) but that sounds great.
Perhaps you could email me at bob.barnetson@3web.net and we could talk details over the next few weeks?

Posted October 25th, 2005 12:38 PM IP The games just keep coming in for MayDay. Our very preliminary list of for-sure events includes:
1. FoW mini-tourney (Stuart Elle).
2. A DBA open event/round robin? (Robert Turner-Smith)
3. A warmaster theme
* Battle of the Five Armies (Stephen Fitzpatrick)
* Warmaster Ancients (still looking)
* Blitzkrieg Commander (Bob)
* Warmaster Fantasy (still looking)
4. 10mm ECW Piquet (Guy)
5. 28mm darkest africa skirmish (Dirge)
6. 25mm WW2 skirmish (Bruce McF)
7. 6mm Battle of Waterloo Grande Armee (Bruce McF)
8. 2nd World War of the Worlds (Kevin)
Then we have a number of "thinking about it" or "would like to have" sessions in the works:
1. WW2 eastern front Crossfire
2. Memoir '44
3. Mordheim tourney
4. ASL (still looking))
5. Warhammer Ancient Battles (still looking)
Keep your suggestions coming! We could use some board gamers too!

| Before the little boo-boo gets forever chiseled in stone, Bob, can you correct the DBA host's name to "Robert Taylor-Smith"? Thanks. "Hey, isn't Paul that goofy guy who still collects Mike's Models ancients?"

We'd love to see something along the lines of a viking game at MayDay!
What set of rules were you thinking?

Posted October 29th, 2005 07:31 PM IP Sean,
Not sure if you've been to Edmonton recently, but you may want not want to make any rash decisions about our wenches. But the plundering is good if you're into used autoparts and Wayne Gretzky statues.
Looking forward to kicking your Norse ass.

Anything there for a 82' Toyota pick-up?
I love Edmonton. The whole Calgary-Edmonton rivalry thing is pretty stale and 1980's.

Posted October 30th, 2005 12:21 PM IP Corticus,
Excellent. I was hoping someone would run WAB!
Perhaps you could shoot me an email offline (you too Dirge) so we could exchange secret identities (i.e., what your real name), emails and discuss some of the details (tables, players, descriptions, etc.).
My email is bob.barnetson (a) 3web.net .
If that kicks back on you (some sort of transient problem with 3web), you could try me at work bob.barnetson (a) gov.ab.ca
thanks and keep the games coming--we're well over half full already!
