Ghost chasing in Tamilnadu
Ghost chasing is a common practice at Amman temples(Goddess temples)
In Tamilnadu, India. People particularly women are affected by some psycho
Problems are said to be of ghosts or devils. The victims behave indifferently
And could not be cured by any system of medicine. At last, people come and worship their traditional rural deities which are capable of chasing ghosts and evil spirits.
The chasing rituals are being done by the rural priests along with drums etc.
Few months before I visited a village called Melmalaiyanur near Thiruvannamalai.
I clicked a devil chasing performance and also took a small video of it.
Here I would like to post the pictures of the ritual first .

I admire the traditions of the East. Even in Europe people embrace ghosts a bit more than here in America. To me, it is spiritually healing to chase ghosts, and to believe that the human soul exists. To me, it seems that many people in America and the "west" have a harder time realizing that this human body does have a seperate part of itself that is called a soul, and that it does go on after we leave this earthly shell behind. I am still healing and learning every day, and a big part of it was learning that there is a piece of me that exists even if I can't see it, and that when I leave this life behind, I will see the ones I love once again. Whether it be in Heaven, as some believe, or in another life, as others believe, I will see them again.
I also find this ritual interesting for I do also believe in the power of positive thinking. Whether this person had a psychological problem, or spirits, SHE believes that she was healed with powerful spiritual medicine. Beginning to heal even a physical or emotional problem comes with the knowledge that you CAN overcome your affliction!

First you'll need to store the video on a site such as www.photobucket.com or www.putfile.com. Once you have it uploaded you can copy the 'image tag' from under the video and paste it in here. Voila, one posted video!! Let me know if ya need any more help, I'd be glad to help you out, I'd love to see the video!

It's so interesting to see how other cultures do things! I have some questions though. Who makes the determination that the person is in fact possessed? Who usually does the exorcism? Does the whole community help?? What happened to the child??

It is quite common practice being done by the rural mass in front of deitiesand sorrounded by local people..
It is nothing harmful or violative.
The girl is not a child. she is above 16.
Certain girls in her ages affected by behavioural disorder either by psychosis or evil spirits.
This is a unique method practiced by rural people in India particularly in Tamilnadu
for thousands of years.
It is interesting to note that most of them are cured in this manner.
The traditional healing is mainly using lemon and neem leaves which are having medicinal qualities.

Sounds like the power of positive thinking and love. Even if there is no entity, and it's an emotional or mental disorder, the girl knows she's loved. I think the ritual may be helpful even for these disorders, since, well, doesn't it make anyone feel better to know they're loved and cared for??

What is the reason for this woman to dance, is it the same as the younger girl? To release a spirit? Or some other reason? What did the man give her to eat? Very interesting!
