Bokwus I have been spending some time in the Queen Charlotte Islands. I am amazed at the amount of reports I am getting here! Being from Vancouver Island I know well of the sightings from time to time there. Being a First Nations of the Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl) I am well versed in our people's legends and stories.

I am looking for any contacts people may have in regards to people that may have a report on Q.C.I. I would also like to know if theire is anyone doing any field research?

Gazza Check out "Raincoast Sasquatch" by Robert Alley. Deals exclusively with the Islands, BC Coast and SE Alaska. Excellent book I think you will find it pertinant to QCI lots of First Nations accounts.

Andy Bokwus:
So, is "Bokwus" a word for Sasquatch/Bigfoot? If so, does it have a literal translation? (Like "Bigfoot" means: big foot?)

Could you share with us here any folk knowledge your Nation has about Bigfoot that you find especially interesting? I'd love to hear.....

Bokwus Bokwus means , Wild Man of the Woods.
Tsoonakwa means, Wild Woman of the Woods

Even to this day, one can see these creatures being brought to life in dance and song at our people's potlatch ceramonies. The Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl)people have fortunately retained much of our culture and heritage from the past.

Throughout Vancouver Island one still sees the Tsoonakwa crest owned by family's used in images upon totem poles, masks, and other forms of art. One can Google the two names and a wealth of information can be found about our people's beleifs towards these two beings that we have shared the forest with for thousands of years.
