Has anyone ever tried a long term camera trap? Taking a trail cam the motion detector kind. With a big memory card, one that could take thousands of pics, and would only need to be checked every month or two. Set it up on a known game trail, or watering hole, and let it work for a year, or two, or whatever. I would think that this would give more time for human sent, and signs to go away, and if it was checked periodically the animals, and BF, would get used to the people coming threw and would not be bothered. |

You'd probably have to conduct an investigation like this on private land to protect your equipment from theft. |

there is actually a camera set up that send pics to a website that you can check from your home computer without ever going into the area to collect your data.
the problem is its fairly expensive and it has an antenna set up you have to leave there. the only way this would be safe to leave is if it was on some ranch or land far from where normal and trespasser traffic would be. I hate to even leave my camera locked to a tree in the woods. they're just to easily stolen. |

yes theft would be a big hinderance to this. I was just wondering if it had been tried. I live in a small town and even here I have lost equipment. Last summer I had my GPS stolen out of my car. People even steal tree stands out of trees. This area (central Pa) is very rugged, but it is nou very spread out. I was just thinking maby in a bigger area if it could have been done. |

This would be perfect for the Snellgrove Lake Cabin featured on the Monsterquest episodes. It doesn't make any sense why they don't do it either. |
