MLS That was announced a few weeks back. Shame they still haven't got his age right!
June 29th, 2011 06:33 AM
beak Bizarre it is in the Evening Post again!
June 29th, 2011 06:34 AM
David Bowden It's a cut and paste of a cut and paste of an incorrect player profile. GIGO.
June 29th, 2011 02:21 PM
beak Bedford announced their squad today so that is quite a few clubs that have. Wonder when we will, if indeed we do put out a list?!
June 29th, 2011 02:27 PM
MLS Interesting to see Bedford had 29 of 'their' players and 7 DR's. If we have similar numbers we have at least another 9 players to announce. Although tbh I'd expect the majority of those to be re-signings, academy and Uni players...
June 30th, 2011 04:17 AM
MLS ...alternatively I see Rotherham have about 10 players on trial, maybe we'll be trialing players through pre-season also?
June 30th, 2011 05:10 AM
David Bowden Who knows? I would prefer to see a half dozen young Uni players and no-DR's. I don't think we have ever been very good at trialing players.
June 30th, 2011 05:42 AM
bp The list of players leaving still leaves a few who, I assume, will still be here next season.
June 30th, 2011 05:47 AM
annie The difficulty comes with announcing DRs/uni boys/etc as you don't necessarily know who you'll have available. Great that Bedford have been so open about the make up of their squad - I think we could learn something from that approach. There will undoubtedly be a long list of DR boys we potentially have access to but it's a judgement call on whether you announce them all as it is very likely many of them will not play.

beak Pre-season training starts today. Maybe should sneak down and see if we have enough players for a squad yet!
July 1st, 2011 06:54 AM
forever rugby well on rolling maul they have Tom French down as player coach for Barking so i guess that is another that isnt coming back, although only on loan to us last year!!
July 1st, 2011 08:06 AM
Justin I saw them this morning and there seemed to be more than 20 and I'm sure Alex loney was there. Usasz was there too but both players could be training with the team rather than having signed.
July 1st, 2011 10:06 AM
MLS More to the point, was there anyone there who you didn't recognise? :p
July 2nd, 2011 04:47 AM
Justin Unfortunately, I didn't see anybody seemingly new and I don't think Luke was there. This is only what I could see from a distance, I wasn't stood next to the pitch watching closing.
July 2nd, 2011 12:45 PM
annie Going to need to improve in the stalking stakes! ;)
July 2nd, 2011 02:57 PM
Justin I'll go hire a "bush" outfit and go down to the bay and spy. I did have 8 children to attend to at the time and I was quite a long way away, so I did my best :-( Apparently Alex loney is definitely with us until the end of the World Cup.
July 2nd, 2011 06:27 PM
annie I think that'd work! 'Til the end of the world cup... Interesting n
July 3rd, 2011 04:01 AM
Justin We'll get Jimmy Stevens back then
July 3rd, 2011 04:14 AM
annie I'd much rather have Alex. Stevens is a decent hooker but it'd be much nicer to have a Nottingham player in the shirt than a DR only playing for a place down the A46. Alex and Joe made a great duo before and I'm sure would do so again for us.
July 3rd, 2011 06:57 AM
David Bowden Alex is a really strong scrummager, throws in well to the lineout, tackles and moves around the park well and is a really good guy. Any Championship club would be lucky yo have him in the mix. If he is back with us then that is a big box ticked. We just need to add a couple more decent props and the pack is looking pretty much done. Though a dedicated, experienced 7 would be good too. I have never held with the idea that the back row are interchangeable. With Craig at 6 and Luke at 7 we had a very strong unit. We have good cover at 8, but not yet at 7.
Justin, I can lend you Alisons photo hide, no-one will know you are there.
July 3rd, 2011 07:22 AM
beak If Luke signs then openside is sorted but I guess the longer times passes the less likely he will! Fingers crossed!
July 3rd, 2011 07:27 AM
MLS If Alex were to sign I couldn't see the logic in only keeping him to the world cup ends. The guy was top notch last time he was here, I hope he can earn himself a longer deal.

Think we could do with another second row, although Cooper and Shaw can both cover, another centre wouldn't go a miss either.

And if James Arlidge is away for the world cup, could we get George Ford on DR ;)
July 3rd, 2011 08:10 AM
hillbilly Noticed on the video someone posted of Cooper he has a 7 on his back in some games.
July 3rd, 2011 11:00 AM
mark.r Alex Loney played openside for us a while ago. I think it was 2006-07. He played very well in that position although seeing a no. 7 taking lineout throws was strange. It would also give us better options on the bench where only one front row player would need to be in the replacements if needed.
July 4th, 2011 04:05 AM
Retired winger I think to bring in George Ford ahead of Socino would not be good for team spirit and would also say to Socino sorry you are not good enough to play reserve fly half. I would like to see in the first B&I game Socino at Fly half, Savage inside centre, Streather Outside centre, Cobham wing, Barnard other wing and Jacko at full back now that is a side with real pace one line break and it is try time.
July 4th, 2011 05:00 AM
Justin In the first B&I game I'd like to see Socino at fly half, Munro at inside centre, maybe Cobden junior at outside centre, Barnard on the wing with maybe an up and coming academy player on the otherside, with Savage at full back.

I still think we're far too light in the forwards.
July 4th, 2011 08:32 AM
David Bowden Whilst Savage is utterly fearless I am not sure he has the bulk for inside centre.
July 4th, 2011 09:29 AM
Retired winger O come on David he is bigger than Socino and last season had to keep coming off his wing to tackle big lumps who had got up a head of steam.
This is the who person felled Chrs Budgen who tried to go over him less than 5 yards out. I am of the opinion you have to put your talented players in the centres and I would say he has one of the best all round games i.e tackle, pass, kick and run. He is not the best at any of those but if you go for the around and gets points for each of the four I believe he would be right up there.
I just think he does the basic well and last season when he came looking for work and hit the line at pace he look dangerous.
July 4th, 2011 11:05 AM
Retired winger By the way I was in my original post just suggesting an experimental line up for a mid week B&I match. So it would just show what these players are capable of all be it against weaker opposition. I am happy with Savage on the wing but questions are asked would Streather, Cobden or even Jacko be better in the number 14 shirt. Who is best in which position is only answered by seeing players play in those positions.
What I would say is we need all those players on the park against the top sides so one of those players has to play a position other than fullback or wing. The best way way of assessing them in that position is to put them their against lesser opposition.

bp Rumour on rolling maul, Kieron Hallett signed (10 or 15).
Anyone heard anything?
