MLS Any idea when that will be? :p

A Tigers fan on one of their boards reckons departures are announced by the club when a players signs for another club... That would suggest the Duffy deal perhaps isn't as done and dusted as we think.

M2OGGTYFC Not so sure about that - they've not announced any departures yet, at all. So I wouldnt necessarily say that. :)

Yes. It is a worry that we will not have the strength in depth. Especially for the RWC. However, the latest post from the club says "Look out for more signings soon."

I don't mind being drip fed but I would like to be told when there is nothing left.

If the promised signings are simply Duffey and Cobden then fine so long as we retain the rest of the squad from last year.
Assuming Sifa has another year to go and Farrell, Blake, Davies and Carter are all off then that leaves us with this team:

1 Matt Parr (2yr)
2 Joe Duffey
3 Michael Holford (1yr)
4 Nick Rouse (2yr)
5 Lee Morley (1yr)
6 Craig Hammond Capt. (1yr)
7 Phil Eggleshaw (1yr) Jonny Baird (1yr)
8 Sione Kalamafoni (1yr) Rupert Cooper
9 Finlay Barnham (1yr)
10 James Arlidge (2yr)
11 Jack Cobden (2yr)
12 Juan Pablo Socino (2yr) Junior Sifa (1yr)
13 Tim Streather (2yr) Joe Cobden
14 Andrew Savage (2yr)
15 David Jackson (2yr)
Glen Delaney (3yr)

Pretty good side but we will need cover for the front five and at half back.
So going from the squad list on the website that leaves questions over this lot:

Neil Fowkes
Ben Buxton
Ian Kench
Alex Shaw
Luke Sherriff
Tim Usasz
Ben Johnston (everyone seems to think he will be coaching)
Jamie Barnard
Peter Cook
Stuart Philpott
Mitchell Todd
Charlie Armstrong
Jack Bradford
Ollie Taylor
Adam Rostron
Jimmy Stevens
Johnny Harris
Calum Green
Tom Armes
Dan Hemmingway
Luix Roussarie
Andy Forsyth

Obviously the last few are Tigers really but if we keep 10 off this list we are up to 29 players which is getting there.
My 10 would be Fowkes, Buxton, Kench, Sherriff, Shaw, Usasz, Barnard, Todd, Armes and Forsyth. Those last two are obviously Tigers dependent.
Gosh the off season is frustrating!

I hear Hemingway is possibly going to Leeds, Roussarie got sent back to Tigers earlier in the season and I also hear Tigers want shot of Calum Green. Not so sure about Armes and Forsyth - dont know if Tigers might want them as cover during the RWC, ditto Jonny Harris but I reckon Jimmy Stevens will stay at least another season.

hillbilly Would not say no to Armes for another season, good 7.

annie Can we get our own players instead please?
June 7th, 2011 04:21 AM
Justin Agreed :)

ftm Whilst I understand everyone is anxious to find out who we are going to sign and the make up of the team for next season AND we are all starved of Rugby for two and bit months..... we, like the team, need to have a holiday and wait. This is the close season. Players are on holiday.. recovering. You can trust GD and the powers that be will know their targets and have their plans. GD in NZ is always a good sign, both for coaching and poaching !
IF there is no news, then there is no news. The club cant make it up. They need to deal in fact not supposition.

So what I am trying to say is have Patience - GD and Trew will deliver. We will never have a better chance than this season coming up.
June 7th, 2011 05:11 AM
David Bowden .....if we sign a competitive squad which is not made up of DR's who can be pulled away on someone else's whim. GD - tried tested proven respected. Trew - complete unknown. I am not sure how you can have any confidence that he will deliver until he has done so.
Many times we have heard that the club must "live within its means" that there is no "big cheque" etc. Until the squad is announced it is not possible to make any kind of judgement.
However, the anxious wait this season to see who we have in the team is much more poignant and concerning as it is the first time in the clubs history that it has been entirely down to the whim of one man. This is the acid test of the brave new world, this is where we find out if the sale of the club means a stagnation or a new start. This is not a normal off season, this is where we find out if Nottingham is going to be put on the Rugby map or not.
These are momentous times for the club we support and the deafening silence over new signings and player comfirmations is almost unbearable. The first few looked brilliant, Rouse, Morley, Parr and so on, but we have stopped at half a team.

Now we all know that isn't true!

Just because nothing is being said it does not mean nothing is happening.

This is professional rugby wheather we like it or not. Glen maybe away but things do not stop simply because the season is over. Agents and players are all wondering who will be playing for who come the new season and with pre season starting soon it is not unreasonable to wonder who will be wearing green and white this term. The stated aim of Mr Trew and the club is promotion within 3 years so if we don't have a decent squad this season with a weak(?) Leeds side in the division we may not get such an oppportunity again. We must compete with the other top clubs in the division in all areas including recruitment and development.
The impatience is largely good natured on here I think. It would be a grim lookout if nobody was bothered wouldn't it? I do trust GD but I am still anxious and excited and I make no apology for that.

M2OGGTYFC Wow David that was a very stirring speech!!!

As an aside,I reckon this season there WILL be fewer DR's for a number of reasons - we've already signed a fair few players of our own. I dont think the entire team will be ours but I think there might only be one or two DR's. Come on, that has to be better than the previous years???

Brian Banter Luix has been signed by Biarritz.

Hit the nail on the head for me.

I have 100% faith Mr Trew will deliver on his side. Maybe he has different motivations but the fact is he wants the club to succeed as much as anyone else.

Retired winger Well things seem to be coming together nicely. Good tight five good loose forwards and good backs.
I agree we need some quality signings for strenght in depth or a good slice of Luck.

David Bowden Welcome back Joe

Spooks Superb news... And on top of a whole lot of good news with the signings so far. I agree, things are shaping up nicely.

bleedsgreenanwhite Great news about Joe. Nice to lay that one to rest finally. Awesome looking pack we have there.

David Bowden No offence to Finlay, who is a talented young player, but we still have not announced our starting 9.
Are there any other obvious gaps in the starting 15/22?
The World Cup will strip us of several players (will affect other teams too of course) so the quality of our squad and its depth will be crucial.
We will not be able to rely on DR players so much as their "real" clubs will need them for cover more than ever this next term.
If we are starting a two or three year campaign for promotion then the quality of the dozen or so player who are not in the starting 15 is crucial. These are the boys we can bring on, condition and turn into Nottingham men. It is my greatest criticism of DR that the young talent is brought on for the benefit of someone else. With GD's ability to find players who are playing below their level and bring them forward this group could be as exciting as out headline signings. Just remember Parra - from Sedgley Park to a Premiership Final winners medal in two seasons.
June 9th, 2011 08:01 AM
MLS 15 Jacko
14 Savage
13 Streather
12 Socino
11 Cobden

10 Arlidge
9 Barnham

8 Kalamafoni
7 Baird
6 Hammond
5 Morley
4 Rouse
3 Holford
2 Duffey
1 Parr

16
17
18
19 Cooper
20 Eggleshaw
21
22
23

Personally think, as far as the first XV goes, that we need a scrum half, possibly an out and out open side and a big centre and those two named barely reach a combined height of 10ft! :p

Would expect to see Socino alternating with Arlidge for the 10 shirt rather than playing as a 12 anyway.

Reckon we need about 14 players either re-signing or newly arriving minimum. I expect we'll have a few academy, uni and DR's to boost the number.

I'd imagine the ideal numbers for each position would probably be;
Back three x 4, Centres x 4, Fly halves x 3, Scrum halves x 3, Back row x 6, Second row x 4, Props x 5 and hookers x 3 taking it up to 32.

Though we'd probably only sign the minimum (e.g 2 scrum halves) and bring someone in only when necessary (like we did with Charlie Davies last eseason.)

.

annie Looks like a top notch starting line up to me - great to see GD being given the resources he needs to have this group of guys together. Broke my heart having to sell all those boys off - excellent to see so many back.

We are obviously a bit light in terms of strength in depth and I imagine we will still have to rely on DR for this, which is a shame but you have to cut your cloth somehow. We don't seem to have cover anywhere on the park yet.

No doubt our 1st XV looks like it could challenge anyone in this league but what happens when someone gets injured or is off on WC duty will be the acid test.

David Bowden That front 5 really does look good - Holford really impressed me when he was with us for a bit the other year.
