Topie: Nightmare Race # 4 Loch Leven RESULTS

January 24th, 2008 07:44 AM Graham Bennison And Louise was concerned that her run at the East League XC at Livingston was crap !!! I wish more of our members would be concerned re turning out at league races (when all age groups are present and support does help !). Full marks to Louise and was back to better form at Loch Leven. The fourth Nightmare Race of the winter series was the first event ever to be held outside Fife – a 10km trail race along the shores of Loch Leven from Kinross. Over the flat out and back course the torch-lit runners were led home by John Hargreaves (Carnegie) timed at 35 minutes 32 seconds chased by series leader Chris Russell (Fife AC) eighteen seconds adrift. Jennifer Macmaster (Fife AC) made her Nightmare debut placing 11th overall, first female clocking 42 minutes 28 seconds followed by Caroline Cox (St Andrews Univ.) in 12th – 43.02. A great course, hard work on the return journey into the head wind. Points will be added up when Chris gets back from his holiday next week. And also for getting his missus to marshal out in the cold, wet, dark and windy weather. It was an excellent course and is no doubt spectacular in the light of day. As for how the mens race went....Brian 'the Cake' Cruickshank set the pace and had John Hargreaves for too close company. I was bumbling along with Davie Burgess and Bill Smith upto the 1 mile mark and realised that I was a little too far back for comfort and closed the 50m gap to the leaders. Brian still led all the way to the turn. The pace slowed as we headed back into the wind and John took the lead with me and Brian behind. After 1 mile or so Brian started to drift back.
