Topie: ROBBIE VINCENT RADIO 1 SHOWS
January 1st, 2011 01:51 PM
Zane Happy New Year to one and all.

Having had a bit of time, I have re-found a box of tapes I found about this time last year and have started to convert them to mp3 format.

It seems this is something others have been doing and I certainly don't want to take anything away from Thierry's excellent thread on Richard Searling shows (http://s2.excoboard.com/ems/90843/2252314).

Anyway, here is the first of the tapes I've converted. This one is from sometime in the summer of 1985.

This one features (amongst others):

Charlie Singleton - Snap Your Fingers
Alexander O'Neal - What's Missing
Morris Day - Oak Tree
Roy Ayers - Slip N' Slide
Frederick - Gentle
Jennifer Holliday - Say You Love Me

(Maybe somebody else will write a playlist.....)

You should be able to able to stream or download the files, each of which has Robbie's picture attached

Robbie Vincent Summer 1985 (part 1)

Robbie Vincent Summer 1985 (part 2)

For what it's worth, I read recently that Robbie's not been so well and has suffered from a second heart attack so here's hoping he recovers soon.

All the best,

Zane

dave boy Great stuff guys, used to luv this guy and his following.
Would always set my alarm on a Saturday morning for his Radio London show from 11.30-2.00pm, this was a ritual for a good few years, (late 70's to mid 80's. This had a huge Posse' following down here in the London area.
I have a couple of old tapes from then but poor quality I'm afraid.
I'm sure there must be more out there sitting in a loft or two somwhere ?

Cheers Dave H.

gringo Zane,

I'm chuffed to bits that you found time to put up some of Robbie's old shows. It's really made my day!

We used to have a group of us who would tape his shows and then distribute them all around the country to different folk in places that couldn't get his shows via the old radio networks. It used to be called the 'Satellite Club' and I believe it was Jane Smith that started it up? Does anyone know where Jane is these days or are their any members of the old Satellite Club on EMS Forum?

As for Robbie, he was THE MAN for me. He started everything off for me in the late 80's. Up north, there were hardly any specialist soul shows on the radio. He was definitely the man that gave me soul music and a lifetimes enjoyment because of it.

Robbie had such a warm personality and is so underated in terms of the ground breaking work he did to bring soul and many acts to the uk back in the day.

I know he got back to some of his better work on Jazz Fm, but it is so sad to hear that he hasn't been well recently. I really do think that he is a forgotten man these days, which shouldn't be allowed to happen.

I have some shows I can put up on this link for other Robbie fans too and will try to dig them out over the next few weeks. I am currently having a nightmare transfering computers over, but hopefully should be sorted soon.

Zane Here is another instalment - this time a show from January 1986 where Robbie played Part 1 of his "Killer Cuts" from the past 25 years.

I am pretty sure we all know the tracks, but it is special to hear Mr Vincent announce them.....

Robbie Vincent Killer Cuts 25 Years 5th Jan 1986 - Part 1

Robbie Vincent Killer Cuts 25 Years 5th Jan 1986 - Part 2

It was a 2 hour show, which was recorded on a TDK D120 tape, so I've recorded it as two files, each of which should fit on a CD.

Here's hoping I can find the tape for the part 2 show.....

All the best,

Zane
