Yes I agree with your summary James. It was a great game and enjoyable to watch. Two very good sides playing good passing football. The Cooks showed great spirit, fighting back after their lead was pegged back twice. Congratulations to Dustin who turned striker to goalkeeper and proved to be more than a competent deputy.
Well done lads.

Cranfield u18s v Cogenhoe u18s 15/10

Well this was always going to be the hardest game the cooks would have to date, Cranfield, like Cogenhoe had yet to drop any points, something had to give.

Cogenhoe entered this game on the back of a convincing win against Spencer the previous week however with news the Gk George McLennan was unable to play due to injury, and 3 of the lads had represented Northamptonshire the night before we knew things were always going to be tough.

Cooks had to rely on front man Dustin Fitzgerald to do a job with the gloves meaning a new strike partnership of new recruit Jordan Richards and league top scorer Sean Nicolson.

After 20mins it was clearly going to be a very tight affair with both defences being on top however a couple of smart saves from Dustin ensured the cooks didn’t concede, after about 35 mins a loose ball fell to Liam Tuck who coolly volleyed in to make it 1-0. Again both sides continued to cancel each other out and it wasn’t until the 45th minute when Cranfield had a counter attack and scored the equaliser.

Half time 1-1

The cooks kicked off the 2nd half, and knew they had to dig deep and work harder if they were going to get any sort of result, and again like most of the game both sides continued to battle but created few chances. A great threw ball enabled Liam tuck to latch on and break free to steer the ball home to make it 2-1 to the cooks. This goal clearly gave the team a lift and Cogenhoe began to take the game to Cranfield and a great save from the home keeper made sure the score stayed at 2-1. After a 10 minute period of pressure another counter attack and the back four not being able to clear the ball meant Cranfield were again able to get another equaliser.2-2. It wasn’t the best defensive display of the season and therefore it became a case of hoping the front men would score more goals.

Cooks were forced into making a change with the returning Sean O’Donovan replacing the injured Ashley Buchanan wide right, and making an impact immediately. Winning headers in our box and creating chances with some great passing. On about 75 mins, a superb waited pass from Sean to front man Jordan Richards meant the forward was able to find some space and slot home to the delight of the players and management. Could we now hang on?

More changes were made, with Dean Lukeman converting to left back, and Matty ravine taking his position wide left while Ellis Stockport gave way.
10 mins of pressure and better defensive qualities meant that Cogenhoe were able to hold on and take another valuable 3 points at the hands of a very good Cranfield side, who won’t be an easy side to get points from this year.

The game was a great advertisement for youth team football, played at a high tempo and officiated brilliantly.

Last night the Cooks under 18's played second placed Cranfield United in the senior youth league and came away with a 3-2 away victory thanks to two goals from Liam Tuck and a Jordan Richards winner.

The result was all the more impressive as centre forward and second top scorer Dustin Fitzgerald deptuised in goal for the injured George McClellan and 3 of the lads had a game the night before with the Northants County side!

Good win, great performance, 7 wins from 7 well done lads!
