Starting thread about snow tracks & tree twists in North Central New York.
If you haven't seen them they're viewable off the main snow tracks page.

I know the snow and weather in general was unhelpful there, but did you have a sense that the tracks were made wholly in the snow/slush layer, or that they may have gone through and onto the ground?
Would there be any value in revisiting this spot later to see what might be on the ground? seeing is believing |

I went to the area 5 days after the gentleman contacted the BFRO (I just couldn't get there any sooner). When I arrived, the tracks had deteriorated substantially. I was only able to see the remnants of some of the prints. The ice was probably about 3 inches thick when the tracks were found. There was still some ice there when I arrived (about an inch or so), and it became apparent that the tracks were 'in the ice'. I can only deduce that because of the warm/cold/warm/cold weather in that area over the winter, the prints were laid as part of the top layer of ice had partly melted (creating slush), and then re-froze. The reportee considered cutting out a block out around the prints, but the ice was just too thick and hard to do so.
Suffice it to say, no foot touched the ground layer.
I will return again, hopefully with another Investigator, to do an overnight and more comprehensive investigation of the area. TODD PRESCOTT, BFRO Investigator (Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, etc)

Not to detract from the NY track photos, but if anyone is interested in seeing photos of the unusual tree twists/breaks/splits that were found close to the tracks click on the link below. There is also a blurb about the tree manipulations in the 'Post Links to Images/Videos Here' section of the public forum. Please do not post your comments concerning the twists here, but rather, in the 'Post Links to Images/Videos Here' section.

The above link links you to a MySpace page where the photos are archived. Enjoy.
The link below takes you to the 'Post Links to Images/Videos Here' section where you may post any/all comments pertaining to the tree twists.

A wreath? Who or what would put that in a tree? If you build it, they will come! |

Ravellette - I just PM'd you to ask if you would mind moving your post concerning the Christmas Wreath to the appropriate section. I've given you a link in the PM. Thanx TODD PRESCOTT, BFRO Investigator (Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, etc)
