The first meet is 3 days away and no one has started the talk.

Clarksburg is going to be on top this year. Bertrand, Joseph, Solomon, Perry and Howard. Who can beat that?

I'm interested to see how northwest does on the girls side. They obviously lost a lot to graduation, but they return a solid group and bettis' teams, assuming he's coaching, have a habit of winding up on the podium. I also can't wait to see what brittney wade does for bcc. If she picks up where she left off last year, just about anything is possible. But that can be a big "if."

Like I was saying before about Brittney, I guess that's the big question, isn't it? any newcomers to watch out for? anyone know if little eckerstrom is running track?

I think that Conway and Ellis will be the favorites for the mile, but don't forget that all the guys that you mentioned, Sean will be good over more than one event and we will have to see who will do relays.

I for one am interested in seeing who will step to the front in the 4x8.

i would expect wj to have *yet another* strong 4x8 team. the way they ended their cross season, i would not be surprised to see them run sub 8:10 by indoor states

I don't see any public schools going sub-8 indoors this year, though prep and gc might be able to on the private school side. i just don't think there's enough depth.

How about that 3200? Will Weinstein bounce back from his injury? I say Laratta at this point if he focuses on that instead of the 160

I am sure HulaGirl is referring to the departure of Rachel Watkins and Olivia Ekpone. HulaGirl is right...last year was special. Really old records were shattered. It will be hard to recreate.

Are there any other major transfers that may affect the county competition this year? Email me if you don't want to post here.

Do you think Bertrand will be out of shape because he didn't run cross country? I heard he was doing some training on the side in September.

training on the side doesn't quite match up with a full cross season... it was always the same deal with jablonski too. no doubt the dude will be quick but he is working at a disadvantage here. like i said, look for him to mix it up in outdoor. you'll see him start to creep up around indoor regions/states

soccer is great training. 6miles of fartlek

The transfer of Watkins and the graduation of Olivia and Britt will only impact the times the teams run. These teams were deep last year.

Wootton is going to be really good. If Dowling is healthy/participating they could be the best team in the state.

On the boys side in 4a the last 3 or 4 years their has been no clear cut favorite on the state level. Each season a few squads have a legit shot at winning a state title. The girls will probably end up being in that kind of situation this year where 4 or 5 teams have as good a shot as any. NW, Magruder, and Wootton are all in that group.

Jablonski and Bertrand have only one thing in common: serious talent. Their xc+soccer training is nothing alike.

soccer is good for one thing: mentality. soccer's better than sitting on the sofa but its in no way adequate prep for track.

Depends on the soccer coach. We have an excellent soccer coach, and because of that they come into the indoor season faster then some of the xc kids. Soccer is considered the healthiest sport to do. A good soccer player that is prepared for his soccer season will definitely be ready for track. Example - my top two distance runners on the track team both ran a 5K road race early in the fall season (september). One plays soccer, one runs xc (the xc runner placed 6th in 2a states this year). They both ran hard, but the soccer player beat the xc runner by a minute (it was his first 5K ever too). This came from his training for soccer. His time was pretty good too.

Point is, yes many soccer coaches might not be the best, but a good soccer coach has to have the kids in good running shape due to the nature of the sport. I love getting kids from the soccer team at our school.

I'd say a 10 min 2 mile and sub 4:30 double means he is in decent shape.
