"This is gonna be hard to say."
(R.W. Randolph is alone in a blackened room. He's shirtless, wearing just a pair of blue jeans. His hazel eyes are piercing the screen, and he speaks, his voice emptier than usual. Not cold, just empty. Something about him is off, but no one can quite tell what.)
Randolph: This week on Solitary, I'm facing Hawaiian Hardhead. This Vato's been on quite a roll as of late, and he's the current Gateway Champion. This match could seriously headline any pay-per-view in the world. And the fans are gonna get it for free. To the H's, all I can really say is good luck, and get ready for a good match. I mean, sure, you're hard to understand. And by that, I mean someone would have to be on a cocktail of methamphetamines and hallucinogens to actually get what you're saying. But, there's nothing wrong with you, at the end of the day. Even if you are a freak show.
(Randolph pauses. His hands rub his face. When his hands finally drop, one can see something missing from his eyes. He continues.)
Randolph: H's, if you're expecting some epic trash talking this week, I'm gonna have to disappoint you. This year has been both great and terrible for me all the same. My personal life has improved quite a bit. I'm married as we all know by now, by a woman who I didn't expect to ever see again. I get to finally be a father to my boy. Always a good thing, as you well know. Professionally, it hasn't been so smooth. I have been finding it harder and harder to care about the big matches. I haven't been so fired up to win when it matters. That was always the thing that pulled me through: I wanted it more than everyone else. And well, I don't anymore.
I have talked to a Sports Psychologist about it, hoping to get back into the game mentally. However, I think even they saw what the deal was. He asked me if I was ready to leave it all behind. That was not the first time I had heard the question. I have had several critics saying that I'm done, it's all over for me. Everytime, I said "No, I'm not." This time, however, I didn't know the answer. It was something that I had to think about, harder than I have ever wanted to think about it. And I won't say that this was the first time I had asked my wife if I should retire. She told me "it's the same thing as the last time you asked me: If you want to keep going, that's fine. If you want to stop, that's fine too." I love her to death for that. She's my rock.
Dayne, on the other hand, tells me exactly what he thinks. He says that he wants me home, so we can fish and hunt and ride on my 4-wheeler. And you know, sometimes you just can't argue with the logic of a child. And I have to be honest with myself and everyone else: I have missed too much of his growing up as is. And again, it isn't the first time I have been here. Most of the time, though, I've felt that I was just one step away from getting my groove back. This time, I can't say that, anymore. It's time to bring my 11 year career to an end.
(A forced smile comes from the lips of the Broken Saint. He runs his fingers through the brown military fade that he calls his hair before speaking one final time.
As such, I am gonna talk to the boss at Solitary, off camera. We're gonna come to an agreement. The match with H's is still on, don't worry. Randolph-Hanahara III is still on, don't worry. I need to find a way that I can leave this business for good, though. And, to get that taken care of, I think I have an idea...
(Randolph stands up. No snarl, no catchphrase. He walks out the room, ready to plan out the end of his career.
Fade out.)
